Research Interests:

Developing new technologies for the detection and discovery of biologically active natural products. Chemistry and biology of alkaloids. Use of plants as chemical reagents. Analysis of phytotherapeutical agents. The future role of plants in global health care. Specific projects include:

a. Studies on the indigenously used oral medications for pain and xerostomia by practicing dentists in Costa Rica and Colombia.
b. Studies on the global distribution of analgesic agents used in oral medicine.
c. Methods for the detection of chemical and biological agents.
